3 tablette PC
Une tablette PC est une tablette informatique à mi-chemin entre l’ordinateur portable et le PDA (personal digital assistant). Le clavier est remplacé par un écran tactile. Les premières tablettes PC sont lancées en novembre 2002 (14 modèles différents), tout comme le système d’exploitation correspondant (Windows XP Tablet PC Edition) et une version compatible du logiciel de lecture Microsoft Reader. Certains fabricants, IBM en tête, sont assez sceptiques sur l’intérêt de la tablette PC et misent plutôt sur l’ordinateur ultra-portable. Il semblerait toutefois qu’il existe un marché pour les deux. 72.000 tablettes sont vendues en 2002, pour moitié aux Etats-Unis et pour moitié en Asie. Un rythme soutenu suit en 2003. La commercialisation à grande échelle débute en 2004.
